Perfume Bottle?

What a beauty! You didn't even address the woven work... is it hairwork???? Is that a little dog on it? I need to see more!

 

I will post more, any ideas of what it is?

 

Yes, I think Mother Of Pearl... and just by the glimpse of the woven work... I think "hairwork" braid. The bottle may have held "spirits" used when someone fainted...or perfume. So pretty!

I think it may be a vinaigrette rather than a perfume & a beautiful one at that.

Something to counteract some of the wonderful smells of the day. You might want to look around for a sterling mark.

 

This one & others like it in INH's search are made from whole clam shells, the 2 valves (sides) glued together, the dull outer cuticle sanded off to reveal the nacreous layer. They have been cut down on either end to have the silver fittings attached. I love stuff like this.

 

This would not be considered a chatelaine because it does not have the ring to attach to the belt. As is it is right now it would be worn around the neck. I also question if the cord is original to the piece. If you could do a close up of the ends of the cord that might tell us more.

If you have a Sunshine cloth that you could give the silver portion a quick light rub it will really make the design pop & mat reveal any marks.

 

Not hair work, the cut end is showing an interior of white cord.

 

This is a modern example made for Tourists. The cords on the end cleared show the interior cotton material.
