Featured Shirley Temple 8x10 photo with dedication from someone else, what movie, etc?

Anything you can tell me.... Recognize any of the actors other than Shirley T? Was this from a movie possibly? Thanks!

You're right, Pat. That framed picture is of Will Rogers from the 1934 film Judge Priest.

Shirley Temple may be in that grass skirt from her movie Captain January that was filmed in 1935? During those years Shirley and Rogers as well as Janet Gaynor were many times pictured together because they were the biggest money makers, top stars, of Fox. I don't know who the men are with Temple on each side of the framed pic of Will Rogers. I can't read the sig or to whom names well enough.

Oh my! Has anyone else zoomed in on the closeup of the inscription? On the painting, the signature looks like G DElia!!

 

Now I have to wonder whether that's Gino holding the painting - and not the photographer but the artist!

Nice photo! I wonder whether it was posed and taken in memory of Will Rogers, who died in a plane crash in August 1935.

 

Good work, Bake! Nowwww, I'm not 100% sure, but I think that is actually Will Rogers who Temple is leaning on. Most pics of Rogers has his hair falling down over his right eye as will as ginning widely. There are more serious photos of him with his hair smooth back. Also as I speculated in my previous message, I still think the framed print of him with dog is from the film Judge Priest. He wore such a black hat and string tie in that movie and did have a bird dog.

Maybe... to me his head looks a bit different... can't really describe what I mean. I would have to see a photo of Will Rogers from that exact angle in order to tell. I think the nose is different, too. But one photo is difficult.

So the photo could have been taken after he filmed Judge Priest and before he died?

 

Well, Shirley Temple WAS in Hawaii in 1935... Is this at least in part the same outfit? (skirt/lei):

So if she is dressed for that film, Will Rogers was already deceased.

 

You have a good point, Fig, unless Shirley was in early rehersals for Capt. Janu or the sound stage was built just before Rogers died and when he was soon killed they dedicated it to him. SBSVC, I saw those same pics of ST, but for the life of me I couldn't nail down exactly when, where or why.

The man with Temple may be David Butler, the director.

 

Your right moreotherstuf, that could easily by David Butler! David Butler was the director of the movie Captain January. On doing more searching on Temple being in Hawaii in 1935, I found that she with her mother & father vacationed to Honolulu several times staying at the Royal Hawaiian hotel noted for being a celebrity haven back in the day. Their first vacation there was in 1935 arriving by ship. Thousands met them at the dock scaring Shirley. She spotted hawaiian surfing natable, Duke Kahanamoku, in the crowd. She called to him and he carried her through the mob on his shoulders. During that vacation she dressed up in a grass skirt. etc..., entertaining at children's hospital, orphanage, etc... There are several pics online of her in this outfit minus the sweater/jacket fron that Hawaiian vacation. She returned to Hawaii several times for vacations. Later in life on a vacation to Hawaii she met her husband, 2nd one, Charles Black a Pineapple Co. executive.

Soooooo from this pic, I am now in 100% agreement with Fig that this pic was taken after Will Rogers died with the framed pic of him done in remembrance of him and as she found the sound stage was name in remembrance of him.
