Platform rocker info wanted

Hi folks,
Looking for any available info on this or similar platform rockers. This is an Eastlake style rocker that I found at a flea market in Indiana. I believe it was grossly underpriced so I snatched it up with the intention of recovering and reselling. Although, the more time I've spent with this gem, the more attached I've grown! Manufacturer, date, value... any info would be greatly appreciated. It has been recovered more than once and the seat springs did not look original but for the most part, in pretty good shape. Nice. . . I'd say 1910-30. Wood finish looks very presentable, and it has a nice form to it. If all that is needed is fabric, a pretty easy fix...if all the guts of upholstery need replacing, that's more time & money.

 

A print pillow would add personality without the cost of reupholstery.

Looks like your rocker is oak, ca. 1900. As for reupholstering and reselling, a repeating theme here on the board is the decline in value of brown furniture, like your rocker. Since you seem to like it more than you thought, you might want to hang on to it for awhile. And in case there's any doubt, I DO like your purchase!

In the meantime, I've borrowed my own response from another thread to a question about past buys that didn't work out as planned. This seems pertinent:

"I bought two reupholstered, beautifully refinished walnut rocking chairs from the 1890s for $15 each, thinking that I would HAVE to make money on them. Two years later I had to give both of them away. Another eye-opener on the state of brown furniture."

 

Also, that design of rocking chair always creeps me out a bit. The possibility of a child sitting on the chair and putting a finger into the rocking mechanism... I wouldn't have one in my house if I had small children.

There were several versions of this style of rocking mechanism, and several patents. So if you turn it over you may find a name or patent number stamped into the metal that could more accurately pin down the date, region, or even maker.

 

This was a nice project. The guts were in great shape so I only added a bit to the seat to level it out a bit. A print pillow is a must but as of now, unfinished. Thanks for the input!
