Clock, Paris, help

I have this clock in bronze. Is it any mythological-person at the clock? How old may it be? High: 47 cm

 

While you wait for someone like @afantiques who knows something, I found a similar clock from Vauvray Foundry.

It says, in Greek, that it is Aphrodite. If you show me closeups of the medallions, I may be able to ID those. The only one I can see well is Demeter/Ceres.

I started without. Google suggests I want Vouvray, then gives me wine. Adding & subtracting terms did not help. Maybe I've offended it somehow! Pretty soon this thread should come up in search results.

 

Date about 1870. It ha a Brocot suspension but still using a countwheel strike. It looks as if it is ormulu rather than spelter and quite an expensive model for its day.

 

I put in Vauvraye Clock and because I misspelled it, it looked for the Vauvray clock.

Value would depend on where you are, how you sell it, and the general condition and material.

A UK auction valuation, assuming it is ormulu (gilt bronze) would be a very broad £250 to £400, and it could top this or bomb, depending on who sees it or who wants it.

If it turned up on my doorstep I'd pay £300, even though the last thing I need at present is another clock.

if it's the real thing - eventually fire-gilt ? - it should be sold where it belongs to - Paris. I'd research the Drouot archives for similar ones.
it's not clear if the company only made the clockworks or also the casting of the housings; from their address in the Marais I doubt that there would have been a foundry.

 

My mistake. It was founder not foundry.

 

Movements and cases were as far as I know almost always made by different makers. Exceptions would be ultra rare and specialised.

Movements were made in standard sizes, easily adaptable to the depth of the case.
Dial names were usually retailers, who may have made the cases, but usually not.
Names stamped on movements do usually refer to the movement maker.

Carriage clocks were usually the exception, where case and movement were made by a specified maker. There are no fixed rules, just patterns.
