just in case you wonder. there's also the most important and influential woman of the world on the pic! no, not Nancy Pelosi. it's Frau Reichskanzler Merkel in the blue jacket - remnant of GDR production, same cut and color available only in North Korea these days.

The person who asked me about the photo replied to our questions: "Thank you for your very interesting link. [NOTE: I gave her the link to his thread] I found the thread amazing and am grateful for the effort that others are also putting into identifying the subject.

After reading the comments I’d have to concur that her jewels are not at all impressive — not for a royal in full regalia.

Aunt Bea would have been 97 now but the photo was not originally from our family’s records. I believe her brother found it when he had a “scavenger” business and picked it up. Therefore, I don’t think any assumptions can be made about her ethnicity...

Is there any way a computer contrast can identify if Aunt Bea’s photo was a later photo of Elena or her daughter, Mafalda??

I remember the signature at the bottom and thought I saw Diana or Patricia......unfortunately the original was stolen from my aunt’s house when she had an appraiser look at some other items.

Thank you for all your efforts"

I'm kind of in agreement re: an event with a "reigning" crowned woman rather than real royalty. Even though the background is not clear; it looks more like a studio portrait. The dress looks rather ho-hum..and the chair which should be "very regal" looking isn't really even noticeable. The necklace is a little "simple" also. And to me, the big give away is the train on the ermine. If you compare other royals wearing such a thing... the pages are always holding and arranging such things. This train doesn't look very arranged... rather plopped. Royals went to great lengths to really show off an ermine train (or any other train)... rather than to just heap it. Just my two cents...

Also, the crown is contemporary with the dress rather than what one would expect -- a historical crown jewel.
