What is this March 1945 Mark III S clock?

May not be military. Seems to be a 44 day timer, with hours and seconds. The lead has a simple on-off switch, there is a bell to side.

The front has a masked off strip that may cover the original designation (have seen similar before on a WWII US military clock given a UK designation)

No broad arrow mark. Possibly industrial or research use?

If you don't know that makes me feel a bit better :)

It is difficult to believe that with so much to go on, it is so hard to work out what is was used for, never mind who made it!

If it's from Wales, maybe you start it when it starts raining and it rings a bell when it stops raining, in which case 44 days ought to do it most of the time.

I'm fascinated. Someone drew another dial by hand for the 24-hour timer dial. Their dial however increases numerically in the counterclockwise direction, opposite from the larger black dial put on by the maker. One little silver-colored lever starts the 24-hour timer and a brass lever starts the 44-day timer. Maybe the bell rings when set time runs out?

"Day clocks in the British Navy were able to be set from 1 to 44 days and a laid mine did not become active until the required number of days passed. Mines were laid using a mixed bag of settings so as to make minesweeping as difficult as possible."

I'm guessing the clock pictured wasn't a day clock that went inside of a mine as mentioned above. But it was used aboard mine-warfare ships or shore stations to warn people when a given minefield had become active because the day clocks in the mines had reached their activation dates.

This may be intended to operate off 24V DC, a setup common in small ships. Do not fry it with a jolt of 240v AC. till you have made sure what it is supposed to use.

The style of electrical plug may reveal what type of power it took.

    Once again you guys excel!

Cheers Terry & Springfield (not forgetting af!)

Will post a few more photos later, there was another old electrical item that didn't seem related but was in the same auction box so will provide photos of that too in case it is part of the power supply.

Photos of second box. Turning the control knob on the front pivots the coil. The wiring note was inside the box.

Your second item is a crystal radio - minus the detector (crystal).
