China Cabinet

Hello folks,

I'm considering purchasing this china cabinet. My art pottery and glassware collection has been rapidly growing over the past few years and I'm looking for something nice but inexpensive to display it in. This cabinet is at an upcoming auction in my neck of the woods and I wanted to get some opinions before I start bidding since I don't know a whole lot about furniture.

A very nice turn of the century oak cabinet , I assume those are the shelves next to it ? Here in N. fla these go in the $150 -200 range , but only in perfect condition . If its missing the shelves , I wouldnt pay more than $50, cause thats going to be an extra expense .Personally , I like glass shelves in my curios ( I have 3 ) , I just think it displays better .

 

There are three shelves to the left of the cabinet. I went to the preview and it appears to be in fairly nice condition. May have a bit of minor staining on the top but it is not too bad and may come off with some furniture polish.

 

It's pre-WW1 for sure, from the wheels on the feet. It looks like oak and well made. Someone may have had a spider plant on top or something similar. Put enough pottery/glassware on top and you won't care.

 

I would be very happy at 200..and I would probably put in glass shelves as well.

 

Any good glass place could do that; just bring one of the wood shelves as a pattern.

 

Those 3 shelves look a wee bit warped on the floor end....don't know if that would be a concern or not....you say "art pottery" and glassware.....any concerns on weight?????

I just turn the shelves upside down and the warp goes away. I have turned some pieces over and over several times. I like wood shelves better. If one breaks or falls it just damages two shelves of items. A glass one will break all the shelves and the items. Seen it several times it is heartbreaking.

Here in CA a nice display like that (for personal use) would probably go higher than 200.

Well I won the bid! $132 including the buyer's premium. Looking forward to getting it polished up and ready to display some of my pieces.
