Featured Unknown crest on hand-carved wood box

    I wouldn't think an American one, either. It wouldn't surprise me if my grandfather leaned towards being a pacifist.

    He was the right age for the Spanish American War, born in 1876 or 1878 (I've seen both years in documents). But I haven't found any military records for him other than his registration at the start of WWI.

    I've found records showing his father fought in all four years of the Civil War, though. I also saw that his father was a machinist, which might fit with carving wood boxes, and he was alive through 1924.

    I'd be highly amazed if it had to do with pacifism. rather that it comes from the Spanish-US war. old crests of Barcelona have similar groups of stripes.
