Welding Table

Found this old welding table in a barn. Interested to know what the age of it is, is it worth anything? If not it's going to the recycling center for scrap iron. It is solid iron. I would guess that it weighs about 350-400lbs. Any info would be great.

 

Oh Gosh don't scrap it.

The vise, depending on brand and size has value.

Those legs are from an old machine. Search "cast iron industrial table legs" and you'll see they have considerable value. I've gotten as much as $400 a pair plus shipping.

Plus it's a darn nice welding table, worth far more than scrap price.

If the top is perfectly level that is quite important but still useful if not.

 

Just looked at it again and it has a tag that says Merritt/Lockport NY/Engineering and Sales Co.

 

Any marks on the vise? It's a big one.

Sometimes those legs are embossed as well.

 

Is that tag on the legs? As This company was a woodworking machine company and the top may have been put on the base as a custom welding table - may have even originally came from Merritt/Lockport NY/Engineering and Sales Co. that was a division of Merritt from the 20's to 30's.

 

Certainly a usable-looking workbench but I wouldn't call it a welding table. It is a nice set of legs on which someone has put a steel plate possibly cut for that purpose. My point is only that no commercial firm manufactured the bench as you can tell from the rough torch-cut left on one side. There doesn't appear to be any welding slag or arc-strikes on the surface. Real welding tables have an open, basket weave-like surface so there are plenty of square holes to use to clamp down the work to cut down on heat-warping. Their tops are usually at least a couple inches deep and very heavy.

I didn't mean it was a manufactured product from them but a table that was made by someone who worked at Merritt/Lockport NY/Engineering and Sales Co in the production shop or in the maintenance/repair shop section.

 

Depends on what the welder is doing. If it's TIG welding then that makes little mess. It's especially important that the surface is completely level for this work.
