What is it, a pendant? Any idea of age and origin. The stones, emerald and ruby?

I don't think the stones are emerald and ruby. Ruby is a very hard stone and would not be marred up like the middle stone is. My guess on the red stones is Garnet. The green I'm not sure about. I DOUBT they are Emeralds. They are too clean, and I cant imagine anybody putting high quality emeralds in a brass setting. That said....there is a good possibility that they are colored glass. I can't be sure from the pictures. The wear on the large red stone is significant. I don't believe a real stone would wear like that.....especially in a piece like this....what would cause the stone to wear like that? However glass would show wear a lot easier then stone. Just MHO.

I meant to mention......there are several varieties of Green Garnets. Also the wear on the red stone reminds me of Amber. A hot needle test could tell you.....but I don't see anywhere you could do that without it showing. But I am still thinking that none of the stones are real. But I could be wrong.

The small red stones appear to be garnets, the large stone could be garnet, glass, etc. The green stones could be a number of types, all stones should be tested. The piece looks like half of a belt buckle which would explain the abrasion of the large stone.

Rubies can have the same type of abrasion ant pitting,it just takes a bit longer than other softer stones.

Half of a gilt brass sash buckle, glass cabochons - probably Czech, circa 1920s...

Seconded. Czech brass and glass belt buckle half. The wear pattern on the center stone screams glass rather than rock. It could be repurposed into a pendant easily enough. A piece of black rattail cord, two knots, and off you go. The small red and green stones are rose cut, in case anyone's interested - faceted on top and flat on the bottom.

Thrice, glass and brass half belt buckle. The only way to be sure is to have the stones tested

    Would the circles/design be Victorian?
