Another wonderful wedding photo (Post 99).

Is the young man sitting in the chair the "dever" for that wedding? ;)

    Hi Gila,
Did you notice that all three have gloves?

Way back when (and perhaps to this day) the bride's wedding glove on her "ring" finger had the seams split before the ceremony so that the groom could place her wedding band against her skin (not over her glove). ;)

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

    I missed the gloves!

Now I see. And they're carrying them...

I just really like this photo.

I'm guessing that must be the fever, seated, resting after guarding the bride and all that!

I'd guess that shot is early 1920s; my grandmother's veil looked like that, we still have it, and the dress is the right length. Wedding gowns got really short for a few years. They were back to the floor again by 1930.

Makanudo, I love your last wedding photo (Post #107 above).

I see that she has a piece of jewelry (a circle pin?) at the lower corner of the ruffled overlay of her dress.

Did/does such a pin have any particular significance for a wedding dress (back when the photo was taken or even to today)? Perhaps signifying/symbolizing a "new family circle"?

Good question, YourTurn, and good eyes.
I think this is the handsome st groom yet.
The Dever looks about 15 yes old!
    That plant is rosemary again?

It may just have been used as a weight to keep that thin material from blowing around. That fabric looks like bastite, and one good brass blade fan would have it flying right up in her face without a weight or some stitching.

I just noticed this, but the bride on this photo looks like she may have been expecting at the time

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Finally, a wedding with an avian Dever!
For whatever it may be worth, that's a cockatoo species, native to Australia, but which were exported since the 1500s or earlier, and widely exported by 1850s. The photo looks 1910-20-ish to me. I wonder what's in his lapel, and where they might be from...

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The man's hairstyle is pretty amazing! Maybe the stuff in his lapel is to keep the cockatoo quiet... :shame:
