I bought this in a junk shop, years ago because I liked it! All I know is that it is a wooden carving of Ganesh. ganesh1.jpg ganesh2.jpg ganesh3.jpg ganesh4.jpg

What did you want to know, Mrscurious?
The origin is India, if that was your question.:)

Not sure Any Jewelry! I guessed it was from India, just wondered if it has any age, and what the markings on the back mean. Anything really . :)

A bit on the rude and crude side so not too too old IMO

Probably 1960s-70s, southern India. I can't read the markings, but they could be the name of Ganesha/Ganesh.

I don't think it's very old. I would expect an older one to be better quality.

And a new one too, which helps a bit in dating it.

    I'm getting an Indonesian vibe

Not at all. No Indonesian wood or Indonesian carving.
No Indonesian script either, that is definitely Indian.

These were often sold to be thrown in rivers for his festival. It happens here: the Thames authorities ask that it be a bit limited, so people are good about it.

I am very fond of Ganesha.

He removes obstacles and is a patron of learning, what's not to like.:)

Me too! There’s something very pleasing about Ganesh statues and I have two myself. I agree that this one is not old but Ganesh is the “remover of obstacles” so worth keeping around.
