    Hi All,
    I am new to the forum and look forward to learning more about antiques and getting to know some of you.
    Can anyone provide any information about the jug in the attached photos? I know from the marking it is dated between 1885 and 1891. Does anyone know what the pattern is called?

    Thanks in advance

    This is a very lovely (if pricey!) jug.:shy:

    I don't know the name of the pattern, but I have a Doulton Burslem plate made at the same time using similar design elements to your jug. It is one of my favourite aesthetic movement pieces and was produced with both dark blue and brown glaze under the gilt patterning.

    Here's my plate:

    Other ceramics, many by Doulton, with Cupid motifs are shown here:

    It takes a bit of patience to go through the photos.

    Flamin' hell, that's a lot of dosh.

    Marbled with sprigged work borders.That curved black and gilt decor is very much in the Japonaiserie Aesthetic style. Cupid confuses it a bit.

    Please don't pay that price. ;)

    So, it’s a wash set, and OP. Is missing bowl.

    Bronwen, look at the hands holding it. I don't think big enough for a wash set.

    They do go, indeed - but unless the perspective is off, OPs looks smaller?

    @Fid - not poppies, I think acanthus.

    INH thinks it's part of a wash set. I only think Cupid's face is being washed. OP's looks more like a pitcher for the table to me, not the ewer that goes with a basin. Very different shape for the wash set INH, in her ever astounding way, was able to find.

    doesn't make sense to me. "Baudelaire; un mangeur d'acanthus" ? Oscar Wilde sipping an acanthus tea ?
