I bought this several years ago on eBay, put it in a large plastic poster tube w/a screw on cap, put it in a corner & then I guess I forgot about it.
Tonight, I was looking for a old, still in shrink wrap, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon poster, when I looked on the side of my armoire against the wall - and there was that old poster tube with this telescope in it! (I still can't find the Pink Floyd poster yet!)
I went on eBay & checked my purchase history - it went back to 2018 - but I must have bought it before then because I couldn't find it.
I think I remember that's it's English & from the 1800's - and there is something that slips into the slot at the front lens housing that is missing; but maybe that will help someone be able to tell me something about it?
It measures 20" & 22" with front housing extended.
It has some kind of wrap hand stitched around it.
As always I am grateful for any help I can get.

Shown in the last photo? I don't think anything is missing. That cut would act as a slight spring to hold that segment tightly to the one before it & still allow its removal.

    Sailcloth, maybe, for the wrap?

i would expect a marine scope to open up more....2 or 3 draw...but?

Using the first photo as a guide:

    L-R:

Lens-cap with adjustable shutter (missing shutter).

Glare-and-moisture shield (that thing that slides up and down).

Barrel, covered in canvas, to provide grip.

If this is as old as I think it is, then a 1-2 draw telescope wouldn't be out of the ordinary.

The eyepiece end has a 'bell' eyepiece, which is a very old style of eyepiece - I think they stopped doing that in the 1830s or 40s. Again, this is supposed to have a sliding shutter...which is missing.

I'd say this is Georgian, somewhere from 1820/30, and before.

Value - in that condition - scrap. If you can clean it, put it back together and get it working properly - $200 - $500. That's what I've seen them sell for. But they were in a MUCH better condition than what's there.

Yes. Well, I mean it can be used for anything, really, but larger telescopes were usually nautical.
