Can anyone make out the name of this copper manufacturer? Looks something like "obeal" I think. I see HANDBEATEN at the top plus WARE and MADE IN ENGLAND at the bottom, but just can't make out the signature. Thanks! (and Happy 4th of July to the US members!) ... Dave

Wonder if it is "Olbury." Look at the top pic/mark on the following copper marks site. I know yours isn't in an oval like the following, but with "Handbeaten" etc... the "O" name looks very similar:

Forget my previous reply. It is "Cobral" ware made in England. After working with the mark, I could faintly make out a letter before the "o." It was a "C." Here's their mark on the oldcopper.org website.

    Hi Susan,
Good sleuthing. I am amazed at the stuff you turn up in research.

Thanks Susan! Great job -- I kept thinking there might be a missing letter.

I was going to mark your post "Best Answer" Susan, but the link to it is not showing up in this thread and I don't know why. I went and looked at an older topic, and "Best Answer" showed up right after the "Report" link. ?????

I thought there was supposed to be a button for best answer but couldn't find it in my thread about the airplane lamp - maybe it has been removed?

That was my first thought cxgirl which is why I checked another thread. I'm wondering if it is a bug that it is not showing up in certain categories.

I tried a logout / login, but the link remains missing in this thread.

It's not just you, Dave, but it does appear to be ONLY an issue with the Metalware category. (It doesn't appear on the "forums" in under the Marketplace and Antique Collecting headings, but that makes sense.)

If I recall correctly, this category was one we petitioned Peter to add after the board got going 2 years ago. Maybe something got missed in that setup process.

I just started a new thread in Support & Testing to get some attention to the issue.

Thanks for checking Bakersgma, I've been too busy to do much more checking here. I've been making more effort to use "Best Answer", especially when there is a conclusive answer (Thanks again Susan!). This is one of my less used categories, so hadn't noticed it before.

You're quite welcome Dave. Sorry, I didn't get back to this thread earlier, but was involved on 4th of July stuff and such. Really that oldcopper.org is the hero! It has been a godsend for IDing copper and brass marks. Everyone should bookmark that site. Any mention of either metal that's the first place I go.
