    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

I'm not one of the textile brainiacs here, but I bet they'll want a close-up of the back (weave) and any identifying marks... maybe approximate measurements?

    It's very striking!

Hola, and welcome to the Forums.

How much are they asking and is there provenance ?
I would never suggest buying art for an investment unless you yourself are extremely knowledgeable in the field and have an idea of the risk.
I just got thru watching the AR do their comparison from 2005 to 2016....and the number of fine antiques that fell in price over that time had me gasping.

I'm not in love with the fact the one you're looking at was framed...
That can hide things and or hurt the work.

It's not an ancient one, probably 1920s/1930s. Factories in northern Europe made quite a few in a similar vein. Not my style, but it would certainly attract attention. If you like it and want to live with it, go for it. I have no idea what they sell for.

Value depends a bit on the side and IHNI. It looks too crisp to be even vintage, I'm guessing a tourist item late 20th/early 21st. C. Value would differ depending on country in which u planned to sell it.

My WAG at current auction value in US is $175.

I dunno this area, totally guesswork, pullin' this stuff from where the sun don't shine.

On closer inspection, I think Spring has the age right. It's still cool though. The design is 19th century genre art, which is what fooled me a bit.

I'd leave that black table right there, someone's trying to restore it but the globby gold paint will I think keep anyone with any taste from buying it.

I agree with Gila. A look at the back especially will tell a lot. I can't tell how old it is, but quality is not age dependent.

It's probably a scene from 1001 Arabian Nights, one of the more common folklore scenes used on these 20th century tapestries.

Its woven of course not hand done, I would put it at 1950's-60's myself.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

What the heck is blocking the bottom right portion of the frame on the tapestry???? On first glance, I thought part of it was missing.................

You can find scads of these if you search "Arabian Kidnap" or "Arabian Nights" with other keywords like 'tapestry', 'rug', 'wall', 'wall hanging' in various combinations.

They come in varying sizes and quality. Some are flipped, mirror images with the horses running in the opposite direction.

This one has the best description I've seen:
ARABIAN NIGHTS WOVEN TAPESTRY 1970s VINTAGE HEAD SHOP WALL HANGING 72x49 BJORK
VIA: atomicspacejunk88 EBAY eBay item number:182079317962

    Ended: Apr 10, 2016, Winning bid: US $59.99 [ 1 bid ]
"This Arabian Nights wall hanging was sold in head shops and World Bazaar-type import stores in the early-1970s. There were numerous similar designs made around the same time, some with horses galloping in the opposite direction, some with blue velvet skies, etc. (a similar tapestry hangs in the background on Bjork's 1977 album cover). It measures approximately 72 inches x 49 inches and is intricately detailed with fine thread and velvet flocking. It is in excellent condition with no rips, holes or stains, and looks like it was never hung or displayed."

I'm seeing it as an older piece; these have been quite popular ever since the 1880s, and the rather muted colors look a lot like a couple I've got, which have been in my family since the 1930s. Still not especially valuable, though this one is larger than many.
Mine I tentatively valued at $50-$100; they are about 18" by 24"
    - not sure what the value of a larger one would be.
Though it is clearly the same scene as the one found by Laura, it is a slightly different version of the scene. I'm sure many manufacturers have made many versions of this scene, and others, for quite a few years.
Mine as I recall have a faint black stamp on the back; one saying "France" and the other "Belgium" if I remember correctly.

The border design and size of the first example ("Prop room...") sure seem like a match.

They rent at 20 percent of "retail value", but I didn't see any prices on the site.
My security blocks Flash and some Java, so I never know for sure if there are things on some web pages that I don't see.
