Im in the business of flipping antiques. Furniture is my favorite, but there are a few "small" categories that catch my eye.

Antique fans is something I have admired since I was young, but I am just now getting into actively seeking them out.

Currently I have a 1920s era polar cub Ive dissembled, oiled, and waiting for a cool evening to repaint and rewire. Thats about as far as my antique/vintage fan knowledge goes.

Today I came across a garage sale and bought 5 fans, 4 of which work, the 5th needs a new wire and Ill know if it works.

I held my breath and paid $160 for all of them.

Id like to clean them up and put 1 in my booth, keep 1 for myself, and send the others to the antique auction I work for.
Obviously looking to make my money back, plus.

The Century, Diehl, Westinghouse, and Delco Light are my favorites, in that order.
    The Emerson, eh.

They are all flaking and showing some (if not a lot) rust.

I know a couple of them are going to need new cords. The Diehl definitely. It currently has a large rubber type cord thats been split and taped all over.
The Westinghouse's cord has been cut or broken so Itll need replacing as well.
I was just going to order a couple of these kits

    Will they work?

Which one(s) would be worth the time to really clean up/restore?
Which one would you suggest keeping and which one should go to my booth?

You're a fan of fans!(LOL) I have no idea how to value those, but it looks like a nice haul. Some items are best left as found, without even taking the dust off. Others need restoration, and some fall in the middle. Someone else will tell you what to do with the ones you're sending to auction.

I was thinking of keeping one of the copper bladed ones
My boss called me as asked if I wouldnt hold them all for his big auction coming up. He thinks theyd bring good money if I have them all there because it would have a better chance at attracting collectors.
He said I shouldnt bother trying to change cords if theyll run using a spliced extension cord because it probably wouldnt bring anymore $$ (this is at auction).
If I bring them Tuesday hell go ahead and get them online before he goes out of town for 10 days and theyll have a good 2 months of advertising.

I have 2 collectors already emailing me asking me what my price on one of the copper bladed ones would be.

Eh, good problem to have I guess
I just feel rushed in my decision making. :bucktooth:

Bullcrap - you did all the picking - keep the copper bladed fans for your personal possession - I don't know what BOSS you have but obviously he/she doesn't care about anything except making a buck at the cost of letting go a perfectly collectible item!!!! Reminds me of the "American Pickers show"!!

I mean he's definitely not pushy about it, I like a dollar :)

He wasnt pushing me one way or the other, just suggesting.

I plugged the one in that had a cut cord that the collectors were interested in, it ran but sparked inside the duration of the run, plugged it back in and the cord blew in half :wideyed:
    Like lightning!

I think I'd be more comfortable auctioning that one bc I don't know whats wrong with it so I don't know how to price it..
Maybe it just needs a better wire and plug?

Might, but I'd leave bad enough alone and let the next guy deal with it, if he didn't just clip the cord and put it on a shelf someplace. It currently sounds like a bit of a hazard.
