One has no markings...will post it in a different post. This one has this symbol. I can't find anything
on the internet to identify it. It is beautiful ornate, yet has some primitive aspects to it like raw edge draw supports.
    Can anyone tell me anything...

This is the other armoire...ignore the messy storage pics... :) This one does not have any markings on it like the first but the drawers look made the same as the armoire that is marked...Any ideas??? 20160625_175942[1].jpg 20160625_175921[1].jpg

Did you see the oriental symbol? I was told they were bought in Japan by someone stationed there in the 50's. That person said they came from China....The carving on the feet suggests orient...

I think you are correct in thinking it was made in Asia. My first guess would be Japan.
Could have been made for a British family working there. Obviously someone with standing.

Or I found this and it may have been brought to England because of the expo.

I love the face on the knee sticking its tongue out, or whatever it's doing. The Chinese made furniture for both local expats and occasional export even then. There were tons of Brits in Shanghai and of course Hong Kong, and they'd have furniture made locally instead of importing it all the way from Britain. These could be that sort of thing, but I'll defer to Brad's expert opinion if he sees them.

Interesting pieces. Late Victorian, so clutteredcloset is right on. The first is definitely Asian in origin, made to Western tastes. The second looks more likely Western in origin. I would think English. Can't tell woods due to the dark finishes.
