just a point of order...... dished out ...also means something that is offered up, or given out.... eg...the coach dished out praise to each and every player..
or..... the cook dished out peas and gravy to each student...

Another possibility, I suppose, is that these were made by a different company trying to compete with those made by Austin.

 

I think this is entirely possible, especially considering the size.

 

Here are photos of the bottoms. They also appear to be hollow but filled with plaster perhaps?
