I thought the brown is some permanent paint but after I tried to clean it I realized it comes off very easily. It reminds me of the Chinese pieces that used that brown to give them an older look. But even they don't wash out with just light scrubbing. The planter is light weighted and feels kind of cheap. I am thinking to get tid of the brown completely.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

Since it's so crumbly and almost completely gone, I'd go for it. Unless you want to find out how it looked originally, first.

The letter-numbers code on the bottom usually mean one of the many importers/distributors such as Lefton, Enesco... oh, those are the only two I can think of at the moment.:banghead: Usually with sticker, "Made in Japan".

I know someone else can come up with more names.:joyful:

Wonder what the creature is. A friendly looking serpent-bird...?

I agree with laura. The A-number usually means Japan import.
Besides Lefton, and Enesco; there is Napco, Inesco, Inarco, and Ardalt.

Probably from the 70s with that brown color and design.

I don't think it will look all that great as an all white planter.
Not a lot of value, so if you take the paint off it won't really hurt it.

I wouldn't wash it off. I wouldn't wash it to make it worse either. I think it's meant to be there.

A long time ago, I had two vases with very similar treatment. The maker of those was never confirmed, but Japanese was the suggestion. Could very well be the same manufacturer. I don't remember any color washing off.

Lefton never used this type of marking (single letter, a dash, followed by a 4 digit number).
