A different kind of goofy bangle?

What is this? It reminds me of Peking glass sewing basket rings.

It looks like coral, MOP and jade(?) fragments... It has a glass-like quality, but not as cold to the touch as other Peking rings or bangles I have. Where from - vintage?

 

Stone chips in resin, I'd say. Rather nice.

 

It looks like coral and shell chips embedded in epoxy or lucite. Age....60s/70s someplace. I think. I've even seen toilet seats made the same way, but personally would rather have the bracelet.

 

It is wearable as a bangle and very close dimensionally to basket ring.

Yes, Evelyb - I've seen plaques made the same - shinier and look like trivets - but I can't imagine anyone putting anything hot on them... Never figured out what they were for

This piece has a crafted feel or finish. Carved from a block of above material ^^^^

 

I'm guessing it was molded; the embedded bits don't look cut off, at least not twice.

My first thought was epoxy or such and included stones. I think it's very, very pretty. Elegant.

 

I see what you mean about floating slivers, but I see carving marks and some pieces appear to be sliced off... hmmm. And I can't picture how the curvature of some pieces (abalone or MOP) could follow the shape so perfectly. Maybe a "hoop" mold and hand finished?
