Can anybody help me out with info on this slide and film projector? It's incredibly difficult to find anything on the internet, Google keeps redirecting me to "automatic 500" and "aromatic 500".

The projector is an "ampromatic 500" by ampro corp. I'd guess it's from the 50s, but as I can't find any info, I'm not sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated![IMG]

According to the following website, Ampro Corp. was founded c1913 in Chicago. In 1944 it was acquired by the General Precision Equipment Co. In 1956 it moved to Rochester, NY. "It is possible the products were dropped shortly after since there is no evidence of Ampro past 1957."

I suspect with it in Rochester, NY it may have been absorbed into Eastman Kodak for Rochester was/is the headquarters of Kodak????

Funny, I have seen on other sites dealing with Ampro Precision movie projectors saying Ampro was a division of Graflix of Chicago. Oh, wait a minute. It seems the General Precision Equipment Co. also purchased Graflix in 1956 and moved Ampro to the Graflix plant in Rochester. In the 1968 Singer purchased General Precision Equipment Co.

Here's an edited version of your pic that makes it much easier to see what the projector actually looks like.

Equipment like this is always interesting and usually in amazing shape for they were typically well taken care of. The case might suffer some depending on how much it's traversed the country.
Unfortunately I doubt it's worth much even if it's perfect though some think they're rare which they certainly are not for the reason previously stated.

My local GW has one now, maybe the same one, that I think is $19.99 and ready to be cut to 50% off.
They also think the really cool movie projector they have, which looks a better than for home use, is worth $80....
Have I $40 to blow on it I might buy it when it goes to half off but unless it's something very rare not worth $40.

I think it's handy to have yours around for you will come across many slides. You may find some worth reproducing into photos for $ on eBidet.

Wow thanks Susan. That's way more than I was able to find. I think this must have been made pre 1956 cuz it says Chicago on it.
