7B199E34-B0C1-4A64-804F-F26BF48322C8.jpeg Any idea what I’m looking at here? Bought a couple coins off a guy today and he sent me this photo of a knife he’s selling. Looks to have an Asian character on base of handle. Doesn’t look like anything I’ve seen but I’m sure someone will have some info.

I’ve requested a better photo of the symbol at base. Mayyybe that might help. Seems to have some authentic age but could have just been beaten badly. The design under blade almost looks like it terminates in a whales tale. Coincidence maybe, not sure

I know I definitely didn’t realize it was stone. So the seller is offering this to me at $75 and said he’s flexible. I assume it could be had at $50. Worth a shot at that price do you think? I really don’t know what I’m looking at here. Were it authentically old I would take a “stab” but I can’t even tell that. Seller seems to think it’s very old.

Just found out he bought it from an auction house which I would usually think was a good sign if it was part of a box lot or something at most places. However it came from Skinner and I assume it wasn’t a stand alone item if he’s only asking $75. Which leads me to believe Skinner didn’t think much of it if it was part of a lot. If Skinner didn’t think much of it then there’s probably not much to it. Anyone disagree?

The fact that Skinner probably didn’t see much value worries me. If he’s asking $75 and flexible I assume he paid a decent amount less. If it’s Asian or more specifically Chinese and Jade I’m pretty sure they would have known if it was any good. It is a cool curiosity though for sure!
