This heavy (1.85kg) lump of steel was found in an auction lot, commemorating a match between Pittsburgh and Blackheath on May 14th 1968. Blackheath FC is a rugby (union) football club formed in 1858.

From an OCR record of a Pittsburgh press article it seems Blackheath won 17-3 but it isn't clear what set of rules were being applied. Any more info welcomed.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

There is a PDF file online that indicates that this was the date of the first international match that Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania, US) played. Here is a cached html version of the file, automatically generated by Google:

Turning it into an html garbled the text. It's in the fourth paragraph above, and currently says

May 14, 1968, marks our first international game. Blackheath, "The Club," came to Pittsburgh and

defeated our boy 17-3 at Shady Side Academy. Warne Boyce re reed, with Bryan Campbell, Peter Salmon

Cox, Geoff Airey, Mike Fuller, Tony Sgrfiigin, Jeff Ware, Bob/(elly, Chip tchel, Chuc carbis, Jeremy

I don't know much about rugby rules, so don't know how to tell what set of rules were being applied.

It would appear that Pittsburgh had their own Rugby Union team, and the match was played according to Union rules.

Thanks for taking the care to convert that. Much more useful than what I did!

They have a national team called the USA Eagles, they competed at the last World Cup they lost every game against, Japan, Samoa, Scotland and South Africa. the game against South Africa was 64-0.
They were a little upset that they couldn`t wear, crash helmets, shoulder pads, padded pants and mascara and also the fact that they had to continually run and physically play for 80 full minutes :playful:;):D:D:D
