Autographed photo signed and dated September 8, 1902. I have not been able to figure out who she is yet. I have been searching for actresses, singers and dancers of the time period, but so far no luck. Any help i appreceated.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

You didn't say whether you could read the sig or not. Just in case not, it looks like Jane Lennox.

No I was not sure of the signature. Tried Jane Lennox, but did not get any results.

Is there a photography studio mark at all? or a location?

I did a search on singer "Jane Lennox" 1902 -- just guessing about the singer idea. I found a Virginia newspaper from early October 1902. It's hard to locate the exact article through their viewer. There are many news items in the article in which the headline refers to a show called "Janice Meredith." One of the news items is about a David Belasco show called "The Auctioneer." It refers to "The new leading woman, Miss Jane Lennox, who received the highest praise for her singing and her acting..."

What I quoted appears in the third column, under the picture that says it is a scene from "Janice Meredith."

Doesn't mean it's the same person, but at least there was somebody named Jane Lennox at that time who was performing in the U.S.

Normally I don't necessarily think a photo like this would be of a performer. But something about the formality of the inscription makes me think that she did not know the person to whom she signed the photo. So she could be a performer.

I found that Jane Lennox is mentioned frequently in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a player in the Mathews & Bulger company. The only information I found about her is as follows:
"Jane Lennox, of the Mathews and Bulger Company, now at the Columbia Theater, is a daughter of that well-known actor, Walter Lennox, Sr., now playing in London with
Broadhurst's What Happened to Jones Company, and a sister of Fred Lennox, the comic opera singer. She comes by her histrionic talent naturally."

That is about 1/3 of the way down in this link:

It's the San Francisco Dramatic Review from Sept. 9, 1899. She is mentioned a couple of times earlier in the issue.

Alas, she was ahead of her time. She had the looks for radio which wouldn't become popular for another 20 years.
