Found this oil painting on canvas board today. Artist name is Diane Tothero, it is from 1970 and titled "Miriam". I am assuming this is probably a local artist in my area, as i have found no info on them. Was really wondering if anyone might know some words or phrases that would be good for describing this painting. Thanks

    Hey Gila,
Probably a good bet to be the same person, does not seem like a very common name. Millersville University is only about 15 minutes way from me and the High School in the link is only about an hour or so from me.

You know back around that time I was young and dabbled in painting, I did a girl in a very similar pose. As I recall there was a popular ad of some sort around then that had a girl in this pose that I used. I wonder if this was also drawing on that as a source. I don't remember what the ad was for, a movie, a product???

"Miriam" is also a 1949 story by Truman Capote which deals with loss and disintegration. Probably not a connection, but maybe.

Thanks to everybody for all of the help. Looked up the Capote story and read it, kinda creepy. Not sure if it is related but is it possible.

I think there was a Miriam character in Valley of the Dolls and in Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte too.

    Just Googled 'em. Sure were.
Miriam in VotD had brown hair... shorter, I think. She was a sadsack who overprotected a brother.
Mirriam HHSC had short blonde. She was a villainous meanie who got killed.

The first words that come to my mind are dark and introspective.
