    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Beautiful old quilt, made/backed with old produce sacks. I think it's great. The market was bigger a few years ago, but the great old sacks really give it panache. There are ways of guessing age by colors, too, but I don't know a lot about that. I'll take a first guess at 1920s/30s?

This type of quilt is called a knotted quilt. Thread was sewn thru all layers to hold it together and then knotted on top, hence the name. Most likely will have a cotton batting, which I see peeking thru where stitching has let go. A lot of the fabric scraps look to have been shirt/men's pajama
    fabric.

I really have nothing to add. Gila and Mary have given you all the info you need. I can tell you that one of the bags used was that of the W.J. McCahan's Sugar Refinery and Molasses Co. of Philadelphia. That company was founded in 1892. Original name was W.J. mcCahan's Sugar Refinery. In 1920 it was sold to the Czarnikow-Rionda Co. It was reorganized changing it's name to the W.J McCahan's Sugar Refinery and Molasses Co. In 1944 the company was sold again with name changed to the Philadelphia Refining Co. The bag of your quilt says W.J. McCahan's Sugar Refinery and Molasses Co. Dating it to 1920-1944.

The other is Quaker sugar, a brand name of the Pennsylvania Sugar Co. The following has history of the company. I'm not sure when Quaker was first used. It seems the company closed down for a few years and reopened in 1912. At that time Quaker brands were used, but not sure if used before that date. Quaker was still used up to and after WWII and probably up to the 1950s. The embargo on Cuban sugar sunk many of the sugar refineries.

Quaker is first mentioned in the last paragraph of "The Sugar Trust" section.
