Chair of some sort? What is it called?

Age? Where were this kind of chairs used?

It is an old office chair for a desk. It looks like it might have had casters on those legs. If no casters it might have been a piano seat.

It's an office swivel chair. The three legs are not as prevalent as the four legs with wheels on them. Your friendly experts should be along soon with tons more info.
I'd estimate 1930s or so for age. I think the piano ones usually didn't have a back.

With that plank seat, I'd call it a Hitchcock style chair, but the back could be called Hitchcock or Windsor. Obvious this hasn't been any help for you. Do wait for others to chime in.

I think probably an office chair. There are piano stools with backs but they usually have round seats and don't expose the threads on the height adjusting mechanism like this one does. I think probably older .... Late 19th century is likely. On in to the 20th century, office furniture began to take on a different look and metal became much more prevalent.

 

I might add that the seat may not be original to the base. Any evidence that the seat once had legs? Some better pics with details would probably be helpful.
