I'm thinking this is a Japanese painting on silk. Any other insights or info? (It's signed, but no picture of the signature provided by me.)
I'm also thinking I see an alligator/crocodile, a snake and a rat as part of the shoreline.
    What do you think?
The alligator (large, with his hand beneath him) is getting poked in the nose by the guy with the pole.
The snake (with tongue) is under that.
And the rat (with long tail) is under that and to the right, facing away from the water.
Am I imagining things, or do the Japanese do things like this?

    Hi Chuck,
Great imagination. I see a man walking down a bridge with a balancing pole. The bridge is not to sturdy and he needs the pole to balance himself.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Chuck... I can more or less follow your visions, but I would never have concluded that on my own. If you're right, it would be a very surreal painting! Sorry, maybe I missed something, but... it's signed but no picture?

Took me a while, but I see what you're talking about. I think it's just coincidence, not intent. My guess is that the man is guiding a raft.

Katsushika-Hokusai-02451u.jpg Yeah, not a great photo, but I see a man in a raft poling down the river. Very common way of transporting goods.
