    :)

It looked like a well thought-out piece, but I would never have been able to identify it as any artist! Lucky for us we have people with the expertise for our virtual catalog!

Kardinalisimo: I don't think the bottom has been damaged in any way (rust), just an oxidant that was picked up in the original gather of glass. Otherwise, the pontil scar wouldn't be so clean.

The artist may have considered it a flaw, and maybe that's why the lip is finished the way it is and left it unsigned. Again, I really can't tell by the image if it's intentionally finished that way, or not?

My friend informed me that Stephanie didn't sign all of her pieces. She also said "Stitches and pears, who else would it be"? Unless someone decided to copy her.
She doesn't have any of the stitched glass pieces but she has a stitched pear. She said she will try and send me a photo when she gets home.

Oh! Half of my first guess is right! It should be Pear, but like I said the top/ lid is not there.... Isn't it?

She didn't have time to photograph all her pieces but she sent this one. She also sent the pages from the deCordova Museum exhibition catalog from 1998 which explains her work. I saw that show. There were many pears with stitches, one had surgical hemostats attached to the area of the stitches. Some people may find the things with stitches disturbing so that's probably the reason it isn't in the catalog.

She looked at your piece and thinks it might be an experimental or practice piece because of the finishes on top and bottom but that's just a guess. Or, someone is trying to copy her work.

I forgot to include this other link that is actually on Stephanie's resume. If you click each area it enlarges. The white glass vase with the ribbon is one of the pieces that my friend owns and, apparently, so does Hillary Clinton according to this link.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

I'm glad to learn about this artist. How did I miss her?
Her work reminds me of Georgia O'Keefe's use of flowers' "private parts" as explorations of life and femininity (MY take, anyway). Chubbuck uses fruits/etc. as exploration of beauty and conformity. Thank you all for introducing her to me. I'm an instant fan. Found her on Facebook. :)

Wow - is that as fragile as it looks? (or is that actually ribbon, not glass?)

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

I resonated to this from the first time I saw it, and my first post... whether it's a knock-off or not... it's just a powerful inspiration.

    It's actually a ribbon.

It was making me kind of nervous :)

I can just hear it on the Roadshow now: "However... if you had that original ribbon - which is so rare to find - your Chubbuck vase would be worth XXX more $$$"
