No idea who and where made it but never seen such scars on the side of a glass. Have you?

It looks like part of the design to me. The Nightmare Before Christmas Vase. Or maybe a boo boo and some ash got embedded in the glass?

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

To me, it looks absolutely purposeful.
I could see this in a minimalist or industrial décor. With a ceramic or metal flower, or maybe a single calla lily!

I was wondering why someone would put out a piece on the market with such flaw and thought it could be 'something went wrong' by a student. Would never think it was done on purpose.

I can't see that being anything other than damage - a manufacturing flaw. Some tool probably hit the piece accidentally while it was still plastic.

I guess I'll have to call them stitches :)
How about the rust color on the base, what could it be from?

The rust color on the base.... "The worm died.... the Pear was spoiled..." :nailbiting: Oh! It turns into scary story like "The frog figurine murder" .... :wideyed::joyful:

Oh! I got it! First of all the top looks "scratched" with heavy wear. Second the base has very heavy and unusual color wear. OK, here is what I am thinking:
I think this vase was using upside down as a handle holder.
Or... Maybe it was using as a vase, but it was located at some metal table and every time when was using cold water for flowers there was condensation between vase and metal table. Or :nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting:
Maybe IT IS URN! And it was located long time in some metal "box" (I don't know what name of special container for keeping urn with ashes):eek::eek::eek::eek:

    I wouldn't worry about it...

I'd be more concerned with the way the mouth was finished. I like the way the white kind of slopes off, but it also looks like part of it is polished flat.

It's a nice gourd shape and would look odd if it was just totally flat polished... Just my thoughts :)

Is there any signature at all? It looks like the earlier work of Stephanie Chubbuck.
She did a series with stitches on glass and on her pear sculptures. Pears are a recurring theme in her work. It represents the pressure on woman to have plastic surgery.

I could not find any signature, unless there is one under that rust.
I would expect if the stitches were intentional to have been done with more care unless they were supposed to look that rough.
Chubbuck pieces look much more elegant.

A friend of mine has collected Chubbuk's work since the 90's. Chubbuck has changed her style over the years and her pieces are much different now than her earlier pieces. Same theme, but very different in style. There was no internet in the early 90's so I don't think you will see her really early works online. I went to several of her shows in the 90s and the pieces you see now are much more refined and elegant as you said.

I will see if my friend can send me a couple of photographs of her early pieces. I know she has a zippered piece of glass but I don't know if she has any with the stitches.

Stephanie has a website, why don't you email her and ask it is one of hers?
