IMG_1550.JPG IMG_1551.JPG IMG_1552.JPG IMG_1553.JPG Hey! I have these gold dipped or plated spoons, they are 4 inch with a cherub face on handle and a V on back of handle. They are marked NS on back and that's all. Can't seem to find anything with just that. What could that mark mean? Has anyone seen just that mark before. I hope I got the pictures good enough it so tiny you can see good though loupe but it says NS. TIA

Thanks would it not have a markers mark? I was thinking this might be the markers mark.

It looks like an 1880ish style. Most stuff of that era was maker marked. Possibly a newer retro style piece. Possibly an obscure 1880 maker. I can't see anything in your pictures. Get the light on the subject.

Is that tarnish? Or did someone test for silver smack dab in the front of the bowl?

Like Terry, I can't see any mark.

    Those are lovely.
I think probably European with all the work on the back. Late 1800s, early 1900s.

NS usually stands for Nickel Silver.

Thanks clutteredcloset! Is this what they call demitasse spoons? And would the gold on it be plated or just dipped? Thank you everybody for all you do here!!

I would say so. Took this from google:
Size: A demitasse spoon has just the right size for the small espresso cups that are half the size of a full coffee cup. They are smaller than a tea spoon and have an average length of 3 to 4 inches (7.6 to 10.5 cm)Jul 14, 2013

    Hi Antiquers!

I just came across this board while doing some research and knew I had to sign up immediately :)

I have a question for you folks who might know something about these spoons. I just purchased a set of six spoons almost identical to the ones the original poster posted. They are currently on their way to me in the mail. After reading this thread I got curious and looked at the picture the seller posted of the back of the spoons, but my spoons do not have the 'NS' mark. Since I haven't received them yet I haven't been able to thoroughly investigate them for other markings, but what would you surmise from this? Hope you can help me shed some light on these spoons that the seller didn't seem to know anything about.

Hi Kathrine. You're the second person in the past 24 hours to show up asking about very similar spoons. Take note of the replies by Dragonflywink toward the end of the thread I'm linking here.

If you find any marks when you receive the ones you purchased, we'd love to see pictures of them.

Well well well! Very interesting! I bought my spoons in Denmark, so certainly Scandinavia adds up. Thanks for linking me to the post, Bakersgma! I must post my spoons in there when I get them :)
