    Howdy folks,
I found this old wooden chair in my furnace room, was wondering if anyone could place the style/era? It seems to be made of white oak.
    Cheers,
    Matt.

It's made from quarter sawn oak that brings out the grain - nice craftsmanship. Love the bent arms. I'd put a new wicker seat on it and give it a rub of some Danish oil! I'm probably wrong but thinking 30's

Turn of the century loose variation on a Windsor chair. Probably the captain's chair from a dining set. Seat would have been cane rather than wicker.

    Agree with Brad.
    Turn of the century.

Agree with Rayo about rubbing it down and putting a new seat in.

Restoration places sell embossed fake leather seats. Use upholstery tacks to secure. Less expensive than recaning.

Brad could probably tell you what companies sell them

Just for learning purposes - is caning wider than wicker? And is there a difference in material??

Yes there is a difference, Ray. Don't have a picture ready, but visualize that wicker is three-dimensionally round and caning is flat. Hope that helps. :)

Thanks Brad - wicker as in furniture,

Now that you all have shown me the difference between wicker and caning - I remember my Aunt & Uncle having "wicker" patio furniture by their pool and it would really put a hurting on your back and bottom if you tried sitting on it for too long!
