I bought this dragonfly a few years ago at a flea market in Arizona. I literally paid a couple of dollars for it. I’m curious about a couple of things- is this brass? I don’t see any marks. Any thoughts on the maker. Also does it look like the pin has been replaced? It is so long I poke myself with it constantly- it sticks out past his wing. And last question - is it old?

The front didn't seem to have much age, but the mechanism has been entirely replaced. I've never seen a new piece done that way. The pin is steel too. This has been around a while. The repair work looks pre-WWII and probably pre-1930. The pin is more turn of the last century ... I think.

My guess is 1920s/30s possibly Czech.
    Nice.

The tiny little stones set down in the wings are faceted- some tiny little work there. My pictures don’t do it justice- the way the stones in the wings sparkle. I don’t think it shows in the picture but the are clear, green and lavender colored. There are tiny light holes behind each one
Does it look like it’s brass? It does tarnish somewhat

It looks gold washed to me. (light electroplating)
    Might be Austrian crystals.

I agree with this. Pin does not look over long by very much, & if hinge/pin assembly is a pre-made finding, could just be the best fit jeweller had. The sturdiness of the C catch speaks of good quality manufacturing.

What color? You can usually smell brass.

Is there some kind of mark on the back, behind where the eyes are on the front?

Welcome, HotRod. Really love the brooch.
I would guess 1910s-20s, and yes, an old repair. Looks like gilt brass.
It could speak with a French accent, but I am sure our bug lady kyra can tell you more.

Those pins were often pinned back into the fabric, maybe that helps when you wear it next. If it doesn't poke on the inside, that is.:nurse:

Very well made costume piece, assembled parts, not light brass stamping as in Czech jewellery! Agree with @Any Jewelry on era, and gold gilt brass, but not sure at all it is French:)

    Welcome HotRodLincoln!

It's doing a lot of talking, but none of us can translate Dragonfly.

Very well said! I agree with the dating per the small table on the center stone.
