Featured Red N in Wreath Hand Painted Japan Noritake?

    Hi,
    I thought this was a Noritake mark but not finding it on Gotheborg or looking through google. Hoping someone can confirm and what date this was used.

    I'm thinking Nippon? or a fake?

    I haven't found a Noritake backstamp identical to yours. According to the following Noritake Collectors site, using the letter "N" in the backstamps diddn't start until 1940. A maroon N was used as one to of their 1950 backstamp.

    Click the link for 1940's and scroll down the chart to the 1940 mark to see when the "N" was first used. Click the link for the 1950's and scroll down the chart to 1955 to see a maroon "N."

    The wreath on this backstamp just isn't right for Noritake.

    Could be a fake mark, I checked for that and didn't find it, but that doesn't mean it isn't.
    I forgot about that site, thanks for link ladybranch, I'll go and check it out:)

    I've just heard from a collector on the Collectors Guild site and they feel this is a hobbyist painted piece and not Noritake - they've never seen this mark before.
