Maker Pink Lustreware?

Pink Lustreware Teapot about 4 1/4 high without lid. Does anyone know who the maker is and when it was made? Never heard of this stuff until I got it home and started researching. I thought the colors were very odd, is the reason I bought. But how do you know who made it? TIA everybody!!! CH]

Google "images for sunderland lustreware teapot" Have seen many like that in my time.

 

Sorry if this info appears twice. I looked in my book "The potteries of Sunderland and district" bought at the Sunderland museum about 45 years ago. Cottage ware is illustrated attributed to the "garrison" pottery. (so called because it was next to the military garrison. I think most of the potteries did that design though as it was very popular. Because Sunderland was a seaport, the pottery ended up all over the world, taken back by visiting sailors. The fisherfolk took it all along the coast as well, all the way up north and down to the south of England. It would be very difficult to attribute yours to a specific pottery. Stangely, here in France, we find lustreware called Jersey pottery because if it was bought in Jersey no tax was due on it.

 

Thanks popsycat!!! So I will never know maker but can I put a date on it? I did find one last night that had the same 30 on the bottom and they were saying Staffordshire, but I didn't save page and now I can't find it. I'm sure they were just guessing. And also would this be called copper pink?

 

It is called pink lustre.

 

If you ever hear the term Sunderland lustre, then always think of your colour. Otherwise it is clarified as copper lustre or platinum lustre. I dont know if people still use the term platinum lustre (it is the silver colour) but these are the terms I heard from antique dealers 50 years ago.

I dont think it looks as old as that. Without handling it, I would err on the safe side and go a bit later on the date.

 

Yeah I guess your right, Maybe I should say 1800's and that's all.
