Years of collecting, buying, studying & learning will teach you many things.

Sometimes it is the shape that you spot. Sometimes it is the quality of the material. Sometimes it is just a gut feeling & if the item is cheap enough you take a chance.

All I know is I want to someday go up to where @anundverkaufen lives just to visit that Savers store about 30 or 40 times. :p:p:p :D:D:D:D:D

I'm not sure if this is a Dona Rosa trinket box from Oaxaca Mexico or a piece from the current Dona Rosa workshop - I couldn't find their mark. I love that the odd shape of the box top and the lid allows them to click tight. She died in 1980, so if it is hers, it has to be before then.

Exactly, and yes, all Steuben is supposed to be marked, sometimes so weakly that it’s impossible to discern or see so experience sure helps.

@bercrystal, can you believe these were on the shelf after all the regular pickers left and the production crew went home?
I saw them from a mile away.

I wouldn't have know what they were either, but then I don't "do" glass. Mistakes do slip through. I was in my Ill Will today and found a decently made ring and one of those sterling and rubber bracelets ... at $15 each? :shifty::shifty::shifty: As if. They had a "jar" for $25 that was worth about $3 to me. "Well it has some nice stuff in it other than the valuable piece you want", said the manager. If three bucks is the valuable piece, make mine vanilla.

For the price you paid for them I would have been all over them as soon as I picked them up even without a siggie. Red glassware is usually a good be especially around the holidays & these should do very well.:happy:

    Congrats!!! :D:D

Thanks. Much of my experience is with metalwork. Not sure if the same marking laws applied.

Today's finds with one from last week. The buckle is low grade silver ... Berber? The earrings are Silpada, from the store that really wanted me to be elsewhere. The bracelet is Walker sterling, and the pin is sterling and rhinestone. Jenna Nicole? It's new in box. The ring is garnet and good question. The metal isn't marked but it doesn't "read" like costume.

Stopped at $savers on my way home from work, no more Steuben but found 8 of these cool quatrefoil goblets for $10.99+.
They are slightly iridescent (hard to capture in artificial light) and the stems are hollow from the bowl down. I think Lobmeyr.

Thank you for the compliments on my newest acquisition.:kiss::kiss:

The glass portion is so small & it may be hard to tell but it is an amber iridescent with a floral cutting. The metal stem is what really sets this beauty off.

I actually have had it for a couple of weeks now & finally broke out the camera earlier this week for some picture taking. Before that it was sitting on top of a small drawer unit in front of my desk & I would catch myself just staring at it.:happy::happy:

It appears to have never been used & is as clean as the day it was made. Of course the puffer is as hard as a rock, but the hand crocheted covering is totally intact.

I bought a bag of curious little cups today for $2.99+. Inside the bottom of the bowl is a glass window that doesn’t appear to have any function until you put liquid in them and magically a portrait appears.
