While it wasn't an antique when I received it, it has just become one ... which makes it now the antique longest in my possession. Jumbled in with a bunch of buttons in a small wood box at the bottom of an old sewing kit given to me by my Granny in the late 60's was this ring from the Mexican Border Wars dated 1916 ... once belonging to one of my Grand-Uncles (can't quite make out the engraving on the inside, so I'm not sure which one it was)

    OMG!!!! LOVE IT!
I have 'yard longs' from this era!
Perhaps he is in one of them! :)

Might a black light reveal the engraving?
    Pencil/paper rubbing?
    Angled light in the dark?

Not an antique yet, but I bought a vintage B&O Railroad gravy boat ( early Shenango) from about 1950 when I was 13 years old.

My 1st silver purchase, a sterling cigarette case, bought at a swanky hotel kiosk in downtown Toronto, circa 1980.
I paid almost $200.......& kept it as a lesson learned of what a mistake I made, as my collection grew from there.
I'm not sure it's an antique ......I'll see about some photo's..!

So nice to see everyone's antiques and to hear stories. :)

I have to think a bit more on this topic -- so far the only thing that comes to mind is an old photograph of my great maternal grandmother standing in front of a building in Brooklyn talking to another lady or friend. I found it amongst my grandmothers photo's after she passed on.

The Item I've had the longest is probably this bottle I found in an abandoned house when I was 9 or 10 years old with another friend!! Still have it! Think it's worth about a couple hundred from what I can find out about it!! Since I found it, Mom let me keep it!!! My first!!! I was pretty excited!!

Quirky - The Army Muster Rolls for the Mexican Punitive Campaign (fancy name for the border war) have been added to Ancestry recently. Send me a PM if you'd like me to look for your grand-uncle's listing. :)

I know that gravy boat. We used the same one at Thanksgiving dinner for years. After my dad died, Mom sold/gave the railroad china to another rail nut.

I know I have a few RR things. Some Pullman stuff, etc.
Just minutes ago I bought a double set of FRISCO LINES playing cards in their dispenser box.

I think they are technically termed 'rail fans'. ;)
    ~
'Rail nuts' hold the rail links to the rails by their bolts. :)

I have Antique Russian Icons. Some of them in our family about 50 years. One of them is very unique. I never was thinking about how exact old it is or how much it could worth. Of course I never will sale it, but it would be interesting to know more about it. Several years ago I sold some Icon on eBay. It was 18th century, but I needed more information for description and I have asked on Answer.com. Well... when my Icon was on sale, I got email from some man, that my information is absolutely wrong and he gave me right information. He said he is working in Russian Icons museum. I didn't save his contacts on eBay. I found that there is only one similar museum in US... At least I found only one. Maybe I should contact to them.
Sorry, I won't send picture of this Icon.... It is very personal... I mean it is not an Item to show just for fan... :shy:
