Help Dating Photo (Mexico/Street/Woodie/Pompadour)?

Please, can anybody help me date this photograph? I think it's a relative, and am sending it around to see if somebody knows him. Meanwhile, could y'all take a look at the street scenes, old cars, and fashions/hairstyles, and help me determine a range of dates? I'm guessing @1950. Isn't his pompadour monumental?! Bruno Mars has nuthin' on this dude.

 

That car in the one picture sure looks like a "woody" car body style made in the late 40's, early 50's

 

Thanks! That's what I thought after looking up images of the woodies. Glad to have a confirmation. The mid/later 50s ones were more sleek and had slanted rears. This one is boxy and has huge fenders.

 

Very James Dean-ish! Remember, people can be with cars that were older at the time a photo was taken.

 

True that , there were a ton of 50s cars still around when I was growing up in the 60s . Id kill for his hair !

 

This looks to be a poor area... I think it unlikely that the vehicles are new, now that I think of it, Fig.

Johnny... I KNOW... that must take a whole can of pomade a day. Or maybe shellac.

He's leaning on a car's rear... just a tail light visible... that, too, looks to me to be 1940s.

That is one cool looking hombre. Handsome. Wonder if he was making a portfolio for some reason. They're all definitely staged poses. You have any idea where it was taken? The men behind him in one photo are dressed in late fifties, early sixties style. That upturned collar and the jacket with dark collar and cuffs in that era as well.

 

Somewhere around Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. There's a date 1950 on the back of one (which could have been written any time).
It seems this is a great Uncle Jairo... brother to great Uncle Anthony (of the St. Anthony statue thread!).

 

Much handsomer than some of today's leading men.
