    Hi

i have an unsigned painting “ nesting swallows”. i always believed it was a recent work or 1913 earliest since there is a number, i assumed a date, written in pencil at the back, either 1993 or 1913.

When i looked it up online i found a pencil drawing from an artist named Amalie manesova (ca1800-1880) that is exactly the same. So now i m wondering whether my painting could be from her hand as well because for instance the leaves are painted very realistic, just what she is known for when she drawed fruit still life, and the frame is very similar to frames she used for her works.

So in any case the frame of my painting dates back to around the period and the area where Amalie Manesova lived, and thats a bit odd i think, if its just a copy 50 years later then why that frame? Cant be coincidence,

here are 2 links to some of her works at auction: the websites are in czech

It's very lovely. Could the numbers on the back be the frame size and not a date?

According to one source, a landscape painter named Amalie Manesova lived from 21 January 1817, - 4 July 1883 or are you talking about another artist?

hi yes i mean Amalie manesova, my English is not so fluent, i edited my post a bit to make it clearer. The fact is that the same type of frame has been used for my oil painting like she used for her works. That doesnt prove anything but i thought that could be a first hint that it could well be one of her works.

Hi. I am not an art person; I was just trying to help you by doing some searches. I was confused when you said this was a 1913 work. Your post now makes it clearer. It's amazing that you found the original drawing that matches the work you possess. Is the original drawing you are talking about the one in the gold frame on your post?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I wonder why the one you found online is signed and the one that you own is not signed?

In any case, I like it very much.

    It is lovely, Misterke.
The artist's name can be either Mánes or Mánesova, the 'ova' part is often added to women's names. When I was in Prague, I remember seeing a billboard for a movie featuring Raquel Welchova.:playful:

Took another look at the painting. Does anyone think this is a worn signature? It looks to be in the right place. Again, could just be me. Need someone that knows how to get this image better than mine. amalie 2.png

I am not an art person, but when I was looking for a signature, I noticed a discrepancy between the level of detail between the two paintings. Perhaps it is the medium, oil versus drawing. The drawing looks like a bird in flight, though, while the oil looks more flat. See how the wings are arched up in the drawing?

The online one is signed just below the bottom tip of the leaf that hangs down the lowest on the right. The signature is very clear in the images that are in the first link that @Misterke123 posted in the first post above. It is also visible in the screenshot in that same post, but not so clearly. (In case anybody wants to see what the signature looks like.)

Just below that leaf on the bottom on the oil painting. Not the darker part, above that. The only problem is that it looks to me like Amilie instead of Amalie. That isn't the way she signed though so just need a clearer picture, maybe darker, I don't know.

Sorry. I tried but I'm not finding what you are seeing. Can you draw a circle around the area and I'll try some more.

In the first link in the first post above, the other picture's signature includes just her first initial and the surname. I know that some artists vary their signatures, though.

I will try to make it larger. I have decided just to show you where I see this and you can enlarge it. Thanks for trying.
