Mirror pictures

This is my Mom's mirror I mentioned yesterday. She bought it out of an old farm house in the 60's. I was too little at the time to remember how they got it in the house and set up against the wall, as you can see it goes from the floor to the ceiling. I remember my Dad saying something about the very top molding piece comes off.

Is that style called marquetry? I think I recall a mirror and bureau that had that look, and were called Dutch marquetry. It's majestic!

I don't know how to guess the age, but I'm pretty sure that type goes back into the 1700s.

 

Is it my imagination or is the molding attached to the ceiling instead of the top of the wall?
Could they have placed the mirror and then used the molding to fill the gap?

 

I have no idea on that one - I'll have to ask when I go over there next week.

 

Circa 1870 Renaissance Revival pier mirror. This probably had a more substantial base at one time.
