19thC wax faced doll with pale blue glass eyes, painted features and open mouth showing 4 upper teeth, arms and legs appear to also be wax boots hand painted with painted buttons. Appears to have clothes but unsure if they are hers, but found in the box with her. She is wearing green stone earrings.
She is stuffed with straw and has a strange oblong box in her stomach
She has a very pretty face. 37.5cms long can anyone give me info about her please????

The doll board on ebay use to be the go to place for any questions regarding dolls. I am not sure if those same folks are still hanging out there, but it is surely worth a try because there were some extremely knowledgeable people who were very happy to help.

The box in her middle may be a voice box , you press it and she makes noise . I know from nothing about wax dolls , but aren't they pretty rare ? Shes in really good shape considering .

This link might help you. It's difficult to tell from the picture if she is poured, or rather wax over papier mache or compo. I believe that the hair inserts indicate a better quality doll, which your doll has the inserts around the face. Whether or not the entire head is done this way, only you can tell since you have her in hand.

I have only ever had one wax head doll. Part of her hair was inserted around the face, such as yours. She was waxed over compo. I did sell her a few years back....less than $100. Not particularly well dressed, and she was a small doll....around 12".

Your doll looks to be poured, but again, difficult to tell from the pictures, and I'm not all that familiar with the characteristics of wax dolls. It is too bad that the old doll board isn't very active anymore.

You are welcome. I hope it helped somewhat.

It would be interesting to follow the story of what happens with this doll. A good doll auction might be the way to go if you intend to sell her. Best of luck....and please let us know the results.
