Handcarved Ivory bust African tribal??

    Not implying it is synthetic...sorry...cut my post short. I think it is Ivory. But I posted that for reference to be able to distinguish and offered a link for more info.

    Just my opinion: poorly carved ivory and no resale value.

    There are also regulations about gifting/donating/crossing state lines. Federal, state and local laws would need to be carefully researched.

    Yes, definitely ivory. The cross section on the base would be most diagnostic, but the characteristic cross-hatching schreger lines can be seen on the shoulders. As it is not a traditional object, but made for sale, the style is harder to place. It could be from anywhere in Africa that had access to ivory for carving. It might be helpful to have a profile view, in addition to the front.

    I've owned a similar carving. Yes Ivory, Yes African, Yes Real. Not that uncommon in African Collections from back in the 60's.
