Was at my parent's today taking their garbage out and a neighbor called me over and asked me if I wanted this as her husband died last month and she was just gonna put it out with the garbage as she was cleaning out the basement. I thought it was a humidor but is not copper plate lined, just a total wooden small cabinet with some do-dads on top. The door (9X9X12 deep) has 3 holes in a small shelf on it when you open it. The small tag on the top is worn with no discernible marks - the bottom of the ash tray has (what I can read around the rust) "SIM" "PAT 16 30, "NO 178305" and "WINSTON CONZ"
The joints are tongue and groove with some being dowel rod - they are very loose,(No dove tails).
The glass container with lid is probably not carnival but looks iridescent!

So thinking I refinish it in my wood shop and make a home piece out of it? Or keep it as original and try to find a buyer?

I like it. I would keep it. It reminds me of a pipe smokers table. Tobbacco in the jar, stick matches or Cigs in the cup. pipes in the depressions on the inside door. and reading material in the cabinet. LOVE IT!

Could the strip on the front of the table be a match striker?

I have one a bit older than this. Belonged to my ex husband's great-uncle. We have a tray on top with decanters and glasses. It smells so strongly of sweet pipe tobacco you can't really store anything in it. Ours doesn't have all the cool accessories. Very nice.

Looks to me like they would be cigar rests or pipe rests.

The rack inside the door is for the pipes. I've see pipe stands before but never a door. I'd be using this to hold beading supplies. Those holes are perfect for holding chain. :)

If you are smoking a cigar properly........you don't want to rest it with the lit end touching the ashtray because it will put that part of the cigar out and make it burn unevenly and taste funky. The rests allow you to keep the lit end suspended above the ashtray. Likewise a pipe bowl can get very hot while you are smoking it. The rest allows you to set it down and keep the bowl upright so you don't lose your tobacco into the bottom of the ashtray.

Reminds me of my granddad's old pipe stand. I used to open the door just to smell the pipe tobacco!
