Featured Bronze plaque, woman, dog, maker?

Can't help, but it is stunning. The frame is really something.

 

Thanks. It caught my eye somehow when I got to an auction already in progress and this item was lying flat on a table about 10 feet from me, close as I could get, because the stuff was no longer available for inspection. I made a note in the catalog that I'd bid up to $150. for it. I got it for $80. plus premium etc. and I was pleased when I paid and got to look at it closer.

Later, I was the underbidder on a fantastic walnut and brass table and I wish I'd put my limit higher, but ya can't have it all! I named that table "Captain Nemo's chart table" in my head and left my contact info with the House in case the winner wanted to flip it to me without hurting me too bad. I do have some pix of it.

I keep thinking it's taken from a famous painting, but the only one I found was a child with a dog and a bird.

She has keys on her waist. Maybe it's just the chatelaine out walking her pet grouse and dog.

 

For those interested in what I dubbed "Capt. Nemo's Chart Table" here it is, complete with hang tags from maker, Theodore Alexander. It was top-quality in every way, made no difference to me that it wasn't old, I wanted it for the center of my office. Surface was etched and patinated brass, and wood may have been mahogany or cherry? Very heavy table, if you see another for sale let me know. I stopped bidding at $350. and it sold at $375, now I have nonbuyer's remorse. It was about 36" tall and top was about 48" dia.

 

Just beautiful. I hate non-buyer's remorse.
Maybe you'd feel better if we tell you the table was homely! But it's not.

I've had non-buyers remorse a few times, but you never know what the other bidder was willing to bid up to.

 

Maybe her pet is a decoy? Or maybe she trained her dog to bring one back alive.

That's an attractive table.

The problem with auctions is that you think if you'd bid just one time more, it would have been yours. It's what auctioneers count on. But you have no way of knowing how high that other guy was willing to go.

On the first, I was thinking Phrygian on the cap. It's probably some goddess of the hunt, but I don't know which one.

 

She isn't carrying a weapon, though. I scrolled through tons of paintings looking for this image. The closest I came was this and it's a little boy with a falcon

 

It looks like it was from one of the Pre-Raphaelite painters.
