That makes all the sense in the world. So this could be a true fenton piece?

I don't think there's any doubt, Kiko. It's a very typical shape, color, and pattern for Fenton. There may be some question as to exact age but I've never found that to matter too much with Fenton. Collectors seem to collect by color or shape as opposed to age. And that area where the gunk collects? Part of what can drive me nuts about Fenton. It really seems like a design flaw to me.

I agree with Don, do an eBay search of “Fenton opalescent hobnail” and you will see it is popular :)

Don Thank you so much for affirming it. I have craved a piece of pretty earlier Fenton to add to the two pieces I recently found that had the name plastered all over it. I'm mad for art glass and read every post and comment, so I can learn more. I was able to remove the middle smudtz but am still working on the gunk around the foot. I will report back if I find an easy solution to that. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment on this piece. Thank you. Kiko

Marie. I will certainly do that. Training my eye to find interesting things is part of the process. Kiko

Update: De-gunked and de-smutzed. I love a challenge. Process - alternate soaking with bar keepers friend and lime away and using a sulcabrush to get into the foot.

@pearlsnblume and @dgbjwc I hope this leads to more enjoyment of your pieces. (The white ring is just a reflection of the light - see second picture.)

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Thanks for that -- Never heard of a sulcabrush. It looks very useful.

    Hi,
Over here we have special brushes for going between teeth. We often called them Christmas tree brushes due to their looking like Christmas trees.

It has stiff pointed bristles. You can angle the brushes in two ways. Gets into a lot of places.

I use those too. :) Especially nice for cleaning in small holes and tubes.

Took a lot of scrubbing to get all the gunk out from the foot, but the brush bristles are stiff enough to make it work.
