    Hi

I have had some of my Grandmother's plates and bowls in my cupboard for many years now and now really need to rehome them due to house renovations. They may as well give pleasure to someone.

They may well not be worth anything but she would turn in her grave if I were to send them to a charity shop and someone else were to profit!

I have managed to establish that they are Wood & Sons design WOO239, with a 24 carat gold scroll and edging but can't find anything beyond that...Can anyone help please?

Hi, I doubt whether these are worth anything (just check Ebay completed listings), charity shop sounds the best idea to let someone else take pleasure in them and make the charity a small amount of money

This might be an instance of blanks by Wood with 2nd party decoration. The WOO239 sounds like a Replacements designation rather than a manufacturer's number?

Pick a charity shop your grandmama would have liked. They've little value, but people do buy pretty, so they might as well go to a new home.

Hi and welcome! I wonder if the backstamp actually says 22 ct gold. Since you say charity shop I'm guessing you're in the UK. Do you ever sell at car boot sales? How would you go about selling them?

If you took them to a car boot sale, you'd be lucky to get more than a pound each, sadly.

I often wonder how people are thinking of capitalizing on their items. Some people have shops or sell online or through auction houses. It's hard to know what price something might bring without knowing what ways people have to sell or how things are selling where they are located if they are selling locally. Of course many of the choices for selling also require fees or shipping.

Sadly many very nice ceramic items aren't bringing much these days:(

Sorry, I didn't realise there was so many replies until I logged on! I hadn't noticed this was an American forum so you were no doubt all on here while I was sleeping.

Thanks very much for your help, they do indeed say 22ct gold, I didn't have my glasses on! :)

I am indeed in the UK, and don't sell at car boot sales as I am a bit anti-hoarding so would never have enough 'stuff' to make it worthwhile.

Thus being in the UK I don't think it would be worth selling to Replacements as the shipping would be expensive and time consuming (which I don't have a lot of at the moment.

I will take the advice of Ownedbybear I think, and take them along to the hospice shop, they looked after my Grandfather and I think she would approve of that.

    Thanks again everyone!

There are folks from all over on this site though many are in the US as am I and all are very very welcome. It's just the terminology that gave me a hint that you were probably in the UK as we'd probably call a charity shop a thrift.

It does make a difference sometimes as to what things will sell for though if selling to a local audience and what something sells for on the east coast of the US (where I am) might be very different from what something sells for in Scotland (for example).

I like the idea of Hospice myself:) (at least our version) they looked after my dad.

I knew he was one of us. ;)

Hospice shop is a lovely idea, go for it. Oh, and do please Gift Aid it so that they can maximise the proceeds.

Yes, I will definitely take them to the hospice shop next week when I am in town.

Thanks again for your advice and kind words! :)
