Found today. Does anyone recognize it? The spout is broken on the bottom showing red clay. There are two repairs on the handle - one at the base and one under the griffins head. They are held by metal staples or wire. The only mark is 675 with a 1 underneath. I just love copper lustre so I had to pick it up. 2014-08-24 01.59.40 (800x600) (2).jpg 2014-08-24 02.00.49 (800x600).jpg 2014-08-24 02.16.57 (800x600).jpg 2014-08-24 02.17.07 (800x600).jpg 2014-08-24 02.17.12 (800x600).jpg 2014-08-24 02.17.25 (800x600).jpg 2014-08-24 02.17.31 (800x600).jpg

    Hi Bev,
I would have bought also. I have had a few pieces of copper luster but friends always talk me out of for themselves. The staples aren't the best quality but it was loved enough for someone to do it. It really is a nice piece.

Some people collect stapled pottery; it's a very old method of repair and means someone really cared about the piece.

I found several referred to as Scottish Caledonian Pottery.

It was free, so I wasn't taking a chance on it. :)
We have a swap shop building at our transfer station (dump) where people bring stuff they don't want and there are always interesting items. I brought over a box full of cheap figurines that came from a house we cleaned out and there it was. Love at first sight.

I'd have snagged that too, chipped spout or no chipped spout. Staples means OLD. And it's pretty. And shiny. You can always get me with shiny.(LOL)
That goes double for shiny and free.

I found the exact one for sale at auction expected to go for $150-$200 undamaged. I'd never have paid that. It looks just fine in my china cabinet

I have an old glass compote that has staple repairs, I keep dragging it around to antique shows. I wish I could find that elusive collector of staple repaired items :bored:
