Any age to this yoyo quilt?

Can't tell if this has any age to it, because it was never used/finished, and hasn't been washed, and the fabrics are still bright and stiff. It certainly smells vintage:D.
    Thanks for your time.
And in case she happens to pop by....

    Hi,
Awaiting 6 rivets. Since there is no backing or quilting is it a coverlet or just not finished?. Looks like 60s material to me but what the heck know I do not even know for sure how old I am. YoYo is a good name, I always called them penny quilts.

Judging by the patterns, I tend to agree with Greg on the (late) 1960s, or even the the 1970s.

Thanks so much Messi & Greg. You all are great.
Greg, that's a great question about what to call it. Usually when it's a pieced quilt without a layer of batting, and a backing, I call it a quilt top. But it seems with these types of quilts, most sellers are just calling them quilts? Like they are meant to be that way?? Without a backing? I don't know, and I would love to find out. Thanks for pointing that out.:cat:

They are more properly called a "coverlet" I think.
I have seen them both with, and without a backing, but I think they look better with one. Makes the patterns of the yoyos stand out more.

Without a backing, it would certainly look like a "mild weather" coverlet.

Not to mention that a blanket underneath it would have to be a complimentary color (if you could decide on just one color).

If no solid-color blanket was on the bed under it, figured/printed sheets showing underneath it would be pattern overload to the max! Whoa, doggies!!!

I had fabric just like the yellow/red/black mini patterns (probably still have it around here somewhere). I think I purchased it the late '70s.

But, of course, that doesn't mean that patterns like these weren't available at other times.

My first reaction was 1970s, but that doesn't mean some of the fabrics couldn't be older. Some of it looks like someone cut the bottom off a Penthouse (no relation to the magazine) caftan. Those were early 70s. Those tiny prints are usually circa 1977-1982. Yoyo quilts are made out of scrap and quilters don't toss them. You'll find quilts sometimes made of fabrics manufactured 30 years apart if not more.

I did a lot of quilting back in the 70s. You can date this by the newest fabric and a lot of those patterned fabrics are still around. It has a very 70s look to me and these were popular then.
