What would be an ideal price for 16mm films that have a running time for more than 20 minutes. Also, how long is 100ft of film in time for 16mm. Thanks in advanced!

reel size metre feet .........approximate recording time
    7cm(3inch) 23m 50ft ..........3~5min
    13cm(5inch) 90m 200ft .........20min
    16cm(6inch) 120m 300ft ..........30min
    18cm(7inch) 180m 400ft......... 40min

    I believe this is correct

Your main concern when buying needs to be condition. Old film degrades. Always check for a vinegar smell. If any, avoid. Subject matter is secondary to condition. Most old film is on its way to self destruction.

I don't think that's correct to be honest.

    try this then.....

    • 122 m (400 feet) = about 11 minutes at 24 frame/s
    plus...be aware of..........

Over time, the cyan, magenta and yellow dyes that form the image in color 16 mm film inevitably fade. The rate of deterioration depends on storage conditions and the film type. In the case of Kodachrome amateur and documentary films and Technicolor IB (imbibition process) color prints, the dyes are so stable and the deterioration so slow that even prints now over 70 years old typically show no obvious problems.

Unfortunately, dyes in the far more common Eastmancolor print film and similar products from other manufacturers are notoriously unstable. Prior to the introduction of a longer-lasting "low fade" type in 1979, Eastmancolor prints routinely suffered from easily seen color shift and fading within ten years. The dyes degrade at different rates, with magenta being the longest-lasting, eventually resulting in a pale reddish image with little if any other color discernible.[9]

A 16mm frame is about half an inch high. 25 frams per second is about 1 foot of film per second. It would seem to me you'd need 600ft of film to run 10 minutes.

The difference lies in frames per second...

You ask about price, and the condition issue has been covered. The subject matter would count too, obviously. A lot of 16mm has been converted to digital and uploaded to you-tube, so check title by searching you-tube. I'd think the demand for films already on you-tube, Vimeo, etc. would be very low, but I have no experience there.

Ok thank you all! Does anyone know where I would find a bunch of films besides eBay?

Depends on what films you want. If you just want the plastic strips for an art project, is easier. My brother has loads of that stuff in CA depending on your needs.
